About ISO 22716

ISO 22716 is the new guidance for Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) for the cosmetics manufacturing industry and describes the basic principles of how to apply GMP in a facility that produces finished cosmetic product.
One way to demonstrate compliance with GMP is to implement the international standard ISO 22716. ISO 22716 consists of 17 requirements and introduces a management systems approach to documenting and regulating the production, control, storage, and shipment of cosmetic products. The standard’s guidelines will provide your organization with practical methods for managing the many factors that can affect product quality.

Applicable scope

ISO 22716 is applicable to cosmetic manufacturer including production, control, storage, shipment, and quality aspect of the products.
Please be advised that this standard is not applicable to research and development activities and distribution of finished products.

Why ISO 22716?

The demand for safe cosmetic products has been increasing in the market, and ISO 22716 became prerequisite for the export. It is one of the pillars of the EU cosmetics Regulation.
On 11 July 2013, the new Cosmetics Regulation (EC 1223/2009) fully replaced the existing Cosmetics Directive (76/768/EEC), and requiring cosmetic manufacturer to make CPSR and comply with harmonized standard (ISO 22716).
Hence, ISO 22716 certification is necessary for the export to EU market.
In addition, many countries adopted and reflected ISO 22716 into their national CGMP so ISO 22716 certification will facilitate preparedness for national CGMP.
